MASWA/SPSWA Joint Public Policy Meeting

Adam Suomala, Executive Director, Executive Director Minnesota Leadership Council on Aging, will preview the upcoming legislative session and discuss methods for citizens to become involved in the legislative process.  He will also explain the process for getting laws made in Minnesota.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how issues on the table for the upcoming 2023 legislative session may impact older adults
  • Gain insights into the state legislative process and how laws are created
  • Take home actionable ideas to continue advocating for the needs of older Minnesotans

About Our Speaker

Adam Suomala serves as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Leadership Council on Aging – a collaborative of the state’s 33 leading organizations in the field of aging. Since 2000, Adam has been a passionate advocate in aging, from lobbying in the halls of the State Capitol to coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts across Minnesota. He brings thought leadership on creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive communities in which to age, a Minnesota free of ageism, coordinated age-friendly systems, and he champions people who provide care for older Minnesotans. Adam holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a Masters in Public Affairs from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
