Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults

Presented by Margarita Nadeau, LGSW and Dustin Cobb, LGSW

Objectives:

At the end of the training on Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the legal definition of a Vulnerable Adult
  • Identify maltreatment that must be reported under the Minnesota Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Reporting Law
  • Identify when and how to report Maltreatment of a Vulnerable Adult
  • Recognize when to also report to law enforcement
  • Identify the three Lead Investigative Agencies

Margarita Nadeau, LGSW currently is a Senior Social Worker in Adult Protection Services at Hennepin County, a position Margarita has held for 4 years. Margarita investigates reports of vulnerable adult maltreatment and provides protective services to reduce or eliminate abuse, neglect, and/or financial exploitation. Margarita has a Bachelor of Social Work from the College of St. Scholastica and a Master of Social Work from Augsburg College. During the time Margarita was attending Augsburg College, Margarita worked in various clinics and hospitals in Twin Cities as a Russian interpreter. Margarita worked in a skilled nursing home facility as a Director of Social Services prior to joining Adult Protection team in October of 2014.

Dustin Cobb, LGSW has a minor in Communication from the University of Louisville and an MSW from St.Thomas/St. Catherine’s University. He is currently working as Field Investigator after working for one year as an Intake assessor in Adult Protection. He also has experience working in the Adult Foster Care field, and the Scott County mental health center.
