February Membership Meeting – Grandparent Rights

Jonathan Engel with Hellmuth & Johnson will be discussing the rights of Grandparents.

Objectives

1. Identifying in what circumstances a grandparent can exercise grandparent visitation or custody rights.

• Grandparent visitation when there is a Minnesota custody / dissolution court file involving the grandchild.
• Grandparent custody when the grandparent is a de facto custodian or interested third party at any time.

     2. The legal standard for obtaining grandparent visitation and custody.

     3. The use and importance of a Delegation of Parental Authority (DOPA) form when providing care               for grandchildren.
